In 2009, 15 residents from the Manhattan Animal Care Center in East Harlem, NY had a time-ticking fate. For six consecutive months, no one wanted to adopt them which deemed them as “least adoptable.” Of course these residents we're speaking of are DOGS!
Enters School of Visual Arts student LaNola Kathleen Stone, who took a street photography assignment to new heights by helping 15 dogs in desperate need for homes. Stone worked with the Manhattan Animal Care Center and photographed them in pensive poses that triggered their reversal of fortune. Stone told the Huffington Post that these dogs “had been living in the shelter for at least six months and for whatever the reason ”weren’t melting the hearts of potential owners.”
“Generally my projects are inspired by what I think is a need,” Stone said. “I like them to make a difference.”

Shortly after the project was completed, all but one dog was adopted because this one was “really, really old,” Stone said. After being so moved by the results of the dogs she went back and did the same for struggling cats in need of homes.
