The first commercially cloned dog in the US, Lancelot Encore fathered 8 puppies on July 4th, 2012. The West Boca, FL, couple, Edgar and Nina Otto had their dog's sperm surgically inseminated into a West Palm Beach female Lab named Scarlett.
According to the Sun Sentinel The Otto's paid "a few thousand dollars" to have Lancelot bred with a registered AKC Labrador Retriever in West Palm Beach, FL named Scarlett, which is customarily paid by the owner of the female dog via stud free for breeding the female.
The names of the newborn Labs: Glory, Liberty, Star, Allegiance, America, Patriot, Independence and Victory are currently with their mom Scarlett until they are big enough to adopt.
I am keeping one and we are hoping to find good homes for all the other puppies,'' ~ said Otto.
We are so tickled pink that they were born on the Fourth of July and that she had the litter naturally,'' ~Nina Otto said of Scarlett.
BACK IN TIME
According to the DailyMail Back in 2009 the Ottos spent $155,000 at an auction to have their deceased dog, named Sir Lancelot cloned back by a San Francisco firm called BioArts and the Sooam Biotech Research Foundation in South Korea where Lancelot Encore was born from a surrogate dog.

The Ottos experience with the cloned dog was positive as it exhibits the same movements and behaviors such as crossing its paws when sitting down. The Ottos have also created a website: labraclone.com, "future pups from the past" with the purpose to educate about the cloning journey and sell seven of the half-cloned dogs.
