How to Choose the Perfect Name for your Dog
So a life-changing day came when you had finally picked the perfect dog for yourself or your family. Full of excitement, you brought the dog home, hugging and kissing it along the way and then you try to introduce him or her to your family, there is just one problem. What should you name your new four-legged friend? Dog names can be a dilemma
1)
Base the name by dog breed. For example: Fritz for a German Shepard, Riley for an Irish
setter or Chico for a Chihuahua.
2)
Choose a name based the dog’s personality and behavior. For example: Princess for a spoiled lap dog, Bandit for a dog who takes
things that don’t belong to him or Tugs for a dog who loves playing tug a war.
3)
Base your name on physical traits. For example: bear for
a large dog, smokey for a particular color, my cousin’s dog was
named Tux because he has a white diamond shape on the back of his neck.
4)
Base it on opposite traits. For example: Killer for a Toy Poodle
or Snuggles for a Pit Bull.
5)
Come up with a pair of names if you have 2 new dogs or
puppys. For example – Ben and
Jerrys or Lady and Tramp
6)
Choose a name that you are not afraid to shout out loud. For
example do you want your neighbors hearing you shout out “Poochie”? Also using
1 or 2 syllables works best.
7)
Make a list of top 4 or 5 names, try them out on your dog and
see how both of you respond to each of the names.
