Bulldogs in Drag: Photos of the Early 20th Century

Who can resist a bulldog dressed in costume? For those dog owners who enjoy dressing up their dogs, this is a real treat for you! The Library of Congress catalogued these vintage photos featuring bulldogs dressed in 20th century garb. and were a gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.These photos define the time period in which they were created, reflecting the fashion and culture of that time. 

According to My Modern Met, the photos were taken around 1905 with an 8x10 large-format camera on an 8x10 negative, the subject (the bulldog) had to remain very still for several minutes at a time, which explains the slight blurriness of these photos. The artist is unknown, but their ability to capture the essence of this time period shows us the various detailed accessories and clothing that people were wearing at this time including smoke pipes, suits and hats.
